Family planning services remain essential, and meeting patient needs for family planning services is as important now as it has ever been. Performance measures are one tool to facilitate quality improvement in clinical services. In family planning, these measures have the potential to promote access to patient-centered contraceptive services if defined and implemented appropriately. In this webinar from May 2020, Dr. Christine Dehlendorf, MD, MAS reviews existing performance measures for contraceptive services endorsed by the National Quality Forum (NQF), as well as new measures in development that assess the patient’s experience of contraceptive care. The potential impact of these measures on patients and on health systems will be considered, including issues related to implementation of the measures and their implications for health equity and reproductive autonomy.
